Respectable is a British sitcom that originally aired in six episodes from 30 August to 4 October 2006 on Five; it was later repeated on Paramount Comedy. The series centers on Michael Price, a man who is deeply aware of his own dullness and trapped in a loveless marriage. In the first episode, he tentatively visits a suburban brothel, where, out of fear of sex, he forms a platonic bond with a young prostitute named Hayley. The series explores the evolution of this relationship and Michael's efforts to keep his brothel visits hidden from his wife. His attempts are complicated when he discovers that his builder, Barry, is a regular and uninhibited customer at the brothel. The show was written by Shaun Pye, Alan Connor, and Harry Thompson. Jodi Albert, a former Hollyoaks actress, portrays Hayley, a naive prostitute with a kind heart; Kate is a university student, Maureen is the brothel's owner, a more mature woman who claims to be 27, and Yelena is a dominant Eastern European. Among the non-brothel characters, Michael is experiencing a mid-life crisis, while his amiable builder Barry embodies the archetype of a "Jack the lad."
