An upcoming prequel to the popular series Call the Midwife, titled Sisters in Arms, will delve into the early lives of key characters as they navigate the challenges of World War II. Set in 1939, the three-part miniseries introduces younger versions of Sister Monica Joan, Sister Julienne, and Sister Evangelina, while also featuring a younger Dr. Patrick Turner and Fred Buckle. The series is narrated by Jenny Agutter, who reprises her role as the older Sister Julienne. The prequel aims to fill in gaps in the characters' backstories, offering insight into their formative experiences and relationships. With the original creative team at the helm, the show promises to maintain the emotional depth and historical authenticity that fans have come to expect.
