Sakuragi Hanamichi is a junior high student known for his rebellious attitude, frequent fights, and inability to attract girls. Upon entering high school, he meets Haruko Akagi, the girl of his dreams. Determined to win her affection, he joins the school basketball team, which is striving for national dominance under the leadership of Haruko's older brother. However, Sakuragi has no prior experience in basketball, and a rising freshman star is quickly gaining attention—both on the court and from Haruko herself.
