Quinn Mallory, while experimenting in his basement, opens a portal to a parallel world. He is joined by his coworker Wade Welles and his teacher, Professor Arturo, but the portal malfunctions, pulling them into an alternate Earth suffering from an ecological catastrophe. They must find a way to survive until the portal reopens.

In a world where penicillin was never developed, Quinn is wrongly identified as the cause of a deadly epidemic and detained by a health authority, while Wade exhibits symptoms of the disease, leaving Arturo to search for a cure.

Rembrandt finds himself in a dream world where his doppelgänger is a beloved, Elvis-like figure who has been deceased for eight years. As he experiences the fame he always desired, a former adversary schemes to ensure Rembrandt's permanent disappearance.

The Sliders arrive in a utopian world where Wade unexpectedly wins the lottery, but Quinn uncovers a disturbing truth: the lottery is a method of population control, with winners being executed.
