In 2063, a unified Earth begins interplanetary colonization, but its peace is jeopardized by an unknown alien force. The inexperienced 58th Squadron, part of the Marine Corps Air and Space Cavalry, is thrust into the conflict under the training of Sgt. Maj. Frank Bougus. Young pilots Nathan West, Shane Vansen, and Cooper Hawkes must rise to the challenge as they prepare for a mission that could determine the fate of the galaxy.

After the USS Saratoga nears the site of the Tellus Colony, where Earth colonists were previously attacked, West abandons his post to search the planet for his girlfriend, Kylen, hoping she has survived.

Shane is assigned sentry duty on an asteroid, only to encounter a violent clash with a group of rogue androids, including the AI units responsible for her parents' deaths.

The 58th squad enters underground tunnels in an attempt to locate and destroy a Chig ammunition depot. Along the way, one of their members, Lubin, is killed, and another, Damphousse, foresees that a second death is inevitable.

Shane joins a squadron to battle an enemy spacecraft, teaming up with a former boyfriend whose partner died in a previous mission.

McQueen attempts to regain his pilot status in order to lead a dangerous mission to locate and destroy a powerful and seemingly unstoppable Chig super-bomber.

West learns that his brother has joined the military and is now under the command of an ambitious, young lieutenant whose eagerness to prove himself could put the entire battalion in danger.

Peace negotiations aboard the USS Saratoga are disrupted, prompting the disgraced 58th Infantry to rescue POWs trapped in a damaged Space APC. As enemy fighters attack and the unit suffers heavy casualties, it becomes clear the Chigs are using the peace talks as a ruse, knowing Earth's forces will ultimately prevail.
