The series begins with two young adults in their late twenties searching for a new place to live, leading them to form a fake relationship in order to rent a property. As Tim and Daisy navigate their pretend romance, they begin to learn more about each other and the people around them, setting the stage for the show's character-driven story.

After moving in, Daisy avoids doing chores by convincing Tim to host a lively housewarming party featuring unexpected guests, DIY decorations, and a musical playlist.

Brian is invited to a performance art show by his ex-partner Vulva and, with encouragement from Tim and Daisy, decides to attend. The evening turns tense as Vulva is unkind to Brian, prompting Tim to intervene in a way that reveals his short temper, while Daisy's own interview experience inspires her to explore performance art.

Daisy, heartbroken after her breakup, adopts a dog from the pound to fill the void, unaware that Tim has a fear of dogs. At the same time, Tim and Mike go paintballing and encounter Duane Benzie, the man who replaced him in Sarah's life.

Colin disappears during a late-night walk with Tim, leading Daisy to initially suspect Tim of involvement. A mysterious note later reveals that Colin has been kidnapped by a sinister vivisectionist, prompting the group to organize a rescue mission.

Tim and his friend Tyres plan a night out at a club, and they invite Mike, Brian, and Twist to join them.

Tim is excited when his ex-girlfriend Sarah reaches out to reconnect, but Mike and Daisy are concerned about his emotional well-being. Meanwhile, Mike is pleased to be reinstated as a teaching assistant. After meeting Sarah and realizing she is serious about getting back together, Tim ultimately decides against it, choosing to stay with Daisy and his friends.

Daisy returns from her trip to find Mike has taken over her room, and begins to suspect that the mysterious man she met during her journey is more dangerous than she realized. It turns out he switched bags with her, and now she is being pursued by agents seeking whatever is inside.

Marsha and her daughter Amber argue increasingly, leading to Amber's departure and leaving Marsha with an empty room. Daisy remains unemployed and Tim loses his job over his enthusiasm for *The Phantom Menace*, prompting them both to visit the dole office, where Daisy is denied assistance. Their situation worsens upon returning home to discover that Mike has moved into the now-vacant spare room upstairs.

Mike and Tim advance to the quarter finals of Robot Wars, but face challenges when a disqualified rival team attempts to sabotage them. At the same time, Brian is invited to participate in an art gallery installation, with Marsha accompanying him to support him and enjoy the perks.

Tim is both excited and anxious when Damian Knox, a representative from Darkstar Comics, requests to see his portfolio. Unbeknownst to him, Daisy has included a mocking portrait of Knox that Tim had drawn after their previous discouraging meeting. With the help of Mike and Tyres, Tim scrambles to remove the portrait before the meeting.

Sophie cancels her date with Tim last minute, so he and Daisy go out for the evening, leaving Mike and Brian to care for Colin. Their night takes unexpected turns as they encounter Tim's former rival, a group of aggressive teenagers, and the added complication of losing their keys.

The group dines out to celebrate Daisy's birthday, but Marsha grows suspicious when Tim pays more attention to Sophie than to Daisy. After learning that Tim and Daisy were never actually a couple, Marsha is upset by the deception and leaves the restaurant, followed by a second departure from her home.

Tim, Daisy, and the group are shocked to learn Marsha is selling the house, prompting them to try and reconcile with her. Daisy accepts a job at a local newspaper and decides to leave, while Sophie also prepares to depart for a new opportunity in Seattle. Tim manages to reconnect with Marsha but then discovers Daisy's note, leading him to send Mike to take Sophie to the airport and rush to the train station to convince Daisy to stay.
