Strangers is a UK police drama that aired on ITV from 1978 to 1982. Following the success of the TV series The XYY Man, adapted from books by Kenneth Royce, Granada TV developed a new series featuring the recurring characters of Detective Sergeant George Bulman and his assistant, Detective Constable Derek Willis. The result was Strangers. The series initially followed a standard police drama format, with Bulman as the eccentric lead. The premise centered on a group of police officers brought together from different parts of the country to work in the north of England. Their unfamiliarity with the local area allowed them to infiltrate situations where a more well-known local detective might not be able to. The initial team included Bulman, Willis, and Linda Doran, with local liaison provided by Detective Sergeant David Singer and oversight from Chief Inspector Rainbow. Although based around a small team of detectives, the early seasons of the programme often featured only two or three of the regulars in any given episode, rather than the full team.

Every stage matters — pitch decks and treatments from development, location scouts and table-reads from pre-production, set photos and crew anecdotes from production, edit-bay notes from post, and press kits, festival memories, or marketing ephemera from distribution. Any moment that didn't make the press tour, any document or photograph that's been sitting in a box — please share it so it's not lost to time.
We particularly welcome contributions from writers, producers, cast, crew, festival programmers, distributors, marketing teams, their families, and anyone who was there at any stage.
