Súbete a mi moto
A teenage dreamer fights the cutthroat world of a manufactured pop empire to claim his place in Menú — and survive the relentless pressure that threatens his identity and future.
Menudo was created in 1977 by Puerto Rican businessman and manager Edgardo Díaz-Jerez, who also founded the record company Men-Music. Inspired by the success of teen idol groups like the Jackson 5 and the Bee Gees, Díaz-Jerez envisioned a Puerto Rican boy band that would appeal to young audiences across Latin America and beyond. He began by auditioning boys between the ages of 10 and 14, selecting those with vocal talent, stage presence, and marketable appearances. The original lineup included Raymond Ayala, Johnny Lozada, and Ricky Martin, who would later become one of the most successful Latin pop stars in the world. Díaz-Jerez structured the group to rotate members regularly, typically every two to three years, to maintain a fresh image and prolong the band's commercial viability. This strategy allowed Menudo to sustain its popularity for over a decade, with more than 30 boys passing through the group. The band became a cultural phenomenon in the 1980s, known for its catchy pop songs, colorful performances, and the personal stories of its young members. Díaz-Jerez's management style was both innovative and controversial, as he maintained tight control over the boys' lives, including their education, careers, and public appearances. Despite the success of the group, some former members later spoke out about the pressures and challenges of being part of Menudo at such a young age.
