Kirito begins registering for the BoB tournament but is surprised to find the form asks for his real-world name and address. He hesitates, realizing that without providing this information, he will be ineligible for the grand prizes.

A mysterious man in tattered clothing observes Kirito during his first battle and questions whether he is truly skilled. Identifiable by a tattoo marking him as a member of the notorious SAO guild Laughing Coffin, the man warns Kirito that he intends to kill him in the future before disappearing.

Kirito is troubled by the possibility that the cloaked man is a fellow SAO survivor and former ally he once killed in battle, causing him visible distress that concerns Suguha.

A player known as Death Gun kills Pale Rider in a surprising move, claiming the right to administer true death. Asuna and her allies, watching the live stream of the Battle of the Royal Colosseum, recognize Death Gun as a high-ranking member of the guild Laughing Coffin.

Kirito, joined by his childhood friend Eugeo, begins felling the massive Gigas Cedar when they are visited by their friend Alice, who brings lunch. After eating together, the trio decides to explore a legendary cave nearby.

Kirito awakens in a strange, game-like fantasy world with little memory of how he got there. Struggling to log out and return to reality, he wanders until he discovers a massive tree beneath which he takes shelter.

Kirito resolves to travel to Centoria and seeks Eugeo's assistance, deciding to take on the Gigas Cedar to prepare for the journey. Meanwhile, Selka, Alice's younger sister, expresses her worries about Eugeo to Kirito.

Kirito and Eugeo discover that Selka has gone alone to the End Mountains and set out to find her. Upon entering a cave in the area, they encounter goblins believed to originate from the Dark Territory and engage in a battle.

Kazuto Kirigaya remains unconscious in the real world and is transferred to a better-equipped hospital at Kikuoka's request. Asuna and Suguha attempt to visit him but are denied entry, prompting them and others to investigate the mysterious figure known as Rath.

Eugeo, now an Elite Disciple alongside Kirito, wrestles with choosing the right infusion for his sword to enhance his strength. After being mocked by First-Seat Elite Disciple Raios and Second-Seat Humbert, he agrees to duel Humbert.

Ronie and Tiese are delayed arriving at the dorm, prompting Kirito to go looking for them. Meanwhile, Frenica reveals to Eugeo that she has been mistreated by Humbert and explains that Tiese and Ronie went to confront him about it.

Kirito and Eugeo are imprisoned in the underground prison beneath the Central Cathedral after being labeled criminals for violating the Taboo Index. Meanwhile, in the real world, Asuna monitors Kirito's condition as he receives medical treatment aboard the Ocean Turtle.

Kirito and Eugeo escape from captivity but are confronted by Eldrie Synthesis Thirty-One, who has been stationed there by Alice. As they fight, Eugeo begins to recognize Eldrie from a past encounter.

Kirito and Eugeo are rescued by Cardinal, a young girl hiding in the Central Cathedral's Great Library, who reveals the origins of the Axiom Church and the Taboo Index, beginning with the Administrator's history.

Kirito and Eugeo are tasked with saving the world by the Cardinal and journey to the top of the Central Cathedral. Along the way, they discover their stolen swords in a weapons arsenal but are attacked by the Integrity Knight, Deusolbert Synthesis Seven, with a barrage of arrows.

Kirito and Eugeo meet two young girls, Linel and Fizel, inside the Central Cathedral. While questioning their presence, Kirito and Eugeo briefly lower their guard, leading to an unexpected turn of events.

Despite his injuries, Kirito activates his Perfect Weapon Control ability. As they proceed toward the top of the Central Cathedral, Kirito and Eugeo encounter a mysterious floating platform.

Kirito and Alice simultaneously activate the Perfect Weapon Control art in the Cloudtop Garden, creating a powerful explosion that breaches the Central Cathedral's wall and propels them outside.

Eugeo arrives at the ninetieth floor of the Central Cathedral, only to find it is a large bathhouse, where he meets Bercouli Synthesis One relaxing in the tub. Meanwhile, Kirito and Alice continue their ascent up the exterior of the cathedral.

Kirito becomes concerned by Alice's reaction to the name Selka and decides to reveal the truth about the Integrity Knights. At the same time, Eugeo regains consciousness on the top floor of the cathedral after being knocked out during his fight with Bercouli.

Kirito and Alice arrive at the communal bath on the 90th floor and discover Integrity Knight Commander Bercouli, who has been petrified by Chudelkin. Alice is overwhelmed with emotion at the sight of her mentor in this state, but soon regains her composure to press forward.

Kirito and Alice face Eugeo, who has become an Integrity Knight after undergoing the Synthesis Ritual. Struggling with doubt, Kirito is urged by Alice to confront Eugeo with determination and resolve.

Kirito, Eugeo, and Alice confront the Administrator on the Central Cathedral's top floor, only to face an unexpected transformation as Chudelkin becomes a giant clown and launches an attack using sacred arts.

A covert unit linked to the U.S. National Security Agency is revealed to be responsible for the attack on the Ocean Turtle, and its leader, Gabriel, is identified as a former adversary of Kirito and Sinon.

Shasta, leader of the Dark Territory's knights, seeks to establish peace with the Human Empire following the Administrator's death, but his efforts are complicated by the return of Emperor Vecta to the dark realm.

Determined to defend humanity, Alice enlists in the Human Empire's military, taking Kirito with her. However, the Human Empire faces a dire shortage of warriors, relying on just thirteen Integrity Knights to counter the vast legions of darkness.

The Final Load Test commences as the Eastern Gate collapses, allowing the forces of darkness, led by Gabriel who now rules as Emperor Vecta, to advance toward the Human Empire.

Integrity Knight Renly Synthesis Twenty-Seven abandons his post during his first battle, enabling goblins to infiltrate the camp and reach Kirito.

Alice's mastery of formal art results in heavy losses for the enemy, but she discovers an enemy survivor who reveals Emperor Vecta's search for the "Priestess of Light.

Gabriel commands his army to capture Alice after seeing her, sending the pugilists guild ahead as a vanguard. As Alice and Bercouli devise a response, the enigmatic Integrity Knight Sheyta Synthesis Twelve intervenes.

Asuna logs into the Underworld using Stacia's superuser account and is reunited with Kirito, aided by Ronie and Tiese. However, their meeting is complicated by the arrival of Alice, creating a tense and uncertain situation.

Asuna creates a bottomless chasm to block the dark knights and pugilists from reaching the Human Empire Army on the other side. At the same time, Critter announces a limited-time beta test for a strange new virtual reality massively multiplayer online game.

As a result of Gabriel's plan, U.S. players receive black knight accounts and begin logging into the Underworld, where they launch aggressive attacks against soldiers from both the Human Empire Army and the Dark Territory Army.

Sinon uses the super-account of Solus, the Sun Goddess, to rescue Asuna and others in a critical moment, while Leafa logs in with the super-account of Terraria, the Earth Goddess, and travels to the Underworld.

The Human Empire Army, led by Asuna, faces a relentless assault from a large group of American players. Though they fight bravely, they are overwhelmed by the enemy's sheer numbers, leading to heavy losses among the Human Empire forces.

Bercouli confronts Vecta after he kidnaps Alice, leading to an intense and brutal duel. During the fight, Bercouli employs his hidden technique, Uragiri, to overcome Vecta, though not without suffering serious wounds himself.

A researcher named Yanai is revealed to be the traitor within Rath, as he attempts to stop Higa's efforts to restore Kirito by threatening him with a gun. At the same time, in the Underworld, Sinon encounters Gabriel, who has returned to the game.

Asuna and the group are overwhelmed by Vassago and a coalition of Chinese and Korean players. After finding Kirito in a catatonic state, Vassago callously kicks over his wheelchair, prompting Klein to attack him, though he is quickly subdued. At that moment, an unexpected figure arrives on the scene.

Sinon inflicts major damage on Gabriel but at great cost to her own strength. Leafa defeats the American players but collapses afterward, while Asuna, facing a dire situation, looks to Kirito for hope. Meanwhile, Kirito continues to be haunted by visions of the Black Swordsman in his dreams.

Kirito awakens from a series of disturbing nightmares, finding himself in a battle with Vassago, who wields a vastly enlarged Mate-Chopper. Armed with the Night-Sky Blade and a damaged Blue Rose Sword, Kirito prepares to confront his opponent.

Kirito faces off against Gabriel as Alice and Asuna make their way to the World's End Altar, with Kirito needing to defeat his opponent and return to the real world before the maximum-acceleration phase starts, or risk being trapped in the Underworld for 200 years.

Alice manages to log out of the Underworld as the maximum-acceleration phase begins, but Kirito is unable to do so in time. In the real world, Higa and Kikuoka attempt to shut down the STL to halt the phase, but their efforts face complications.

With the "Rath Attack Incident" concluded, Rinko, now leading the newly established Oceanic Resource Exploration & Research Institution, introduces Alice to the public as a genuine artificial general intelligence.

Rinko tells Kazuto that Alice has gone missing, prompting him to head to the Rath Roppongi branch. Just as he is about to leave, a deliveryman arrives with a large cardboard box.
