The Angry Video Game Nerd is an adult web television series featuring comedic retrogaming video reviews, created by and starring James Rolfe. The show's format centers on Rolfe's commentary and critique of older, unsuccessful video games, often characterized by low quality, unfair difficulty, or poor design. The series initially appeared as a feature on YouTube, later becoming a regular program on ScrewAttack Entertainment before moving exclusively to GameTrailers. The show was renamed The Angry Video Game Nerd to avoid trademark issues with Nintendo and because Rolfe began reviewing games from non-Nintendo consoles, including those from Atari and Sega. Rolfe's character, "The Nerd," is a short-tempered and foul-mouthed video game enthusiast. His comedic appeal comes from his exaggerated and inventive displays of anger, frequent use of profanity, and habitual consumption of alcohol while reviewing games.
