The Mafia Dolls

*Las Muñecas De La Mafia* is a 2009 Colombian telenovela produced by BE-TV and broadcast by Caracol TV. It is based on the book *Las Fantásticas* by Juan Camilo Ferrand and Andrés López, who also wrote the scripts for the television adaptation. The telenovela was set to debut on the Telefutura Network. It premiered on May 3, 2010, following the finale of *Vecinos*, and concluded in the U.S. in July 2010. The story follows Brenda, Olivia, Violeta, Renata, and Pamela as they become entangled in trouble by associating with members of a Colombian mafia group known as "El Carmen." Each of the characters faces tragic outcomes. Pamela emigrates to the United States at the end of the series to escape the conflict and be near her father, a pilot who was arrested by the DEA for smuggling cocaine into the U.S. He ends up in prison, and Pamela works as a maid but tells Brenda she is happy and living a good life. Olivia is imprisoned for faking a marriage with Braulio Bermúdez to claim some of his property. Violeta dies during a confrontation between rival factions of the mafia attempting to end a war. Renata also dies after being forced by Erick to smuggle drugs in her stomach to the U.S., a secret unknown to her loved ones due to her lack of identification. Brenda becomes pregnant by Braulio but never sees him again, as he is sent to a U.S. prison. The telenovela presents a cautionary narrative about the consequences of choosing an easy but dangerous path.
