The Secret of Secrets, also known as Secretum Secretorum or Sirr al-Asrar, is a historical treatise that presents itself as a letter from Aristotle to Alexander the Great. It covers a wide range of subjects, including statecraft, ethics, physiognomy, astrology, alchemy, magic, and medicine. The work is believed to be a pseudo-Aristotelian composition, with early versions based on a 9th-century Arabic translation of a Syriac version of a supposed Greek original. Modern scholars suggest it was likely written in the 10th century in Arabic. Translated into Latin in the mid-12th century, it became a significant influence among European intellectuals during the High Middle Ages.
