The Swan
The Swan is a 2004 American reality television program that aired on Fox. The show featured women who were considered unattractive and provided them with "extreme makeovers" that included various forms of plastic surgery. The title of the series is inspired by the fairy tale The Ugly Duckling, in which a plain bird eventually transforms into a swan. Each contestant was assigned a team of specialists, including a coach, therapist, trainer, cosmetic surgeons, and a dentist, who collectively designed a comprehensive transformation program. Over the course of three months, the contestants' work ethic, personal growth, and achievements were closely monitored. Each episode highlighted two women, and at the end of each episode, one contestant was eliminated while the other advanced to compete in the Swan pageant at the conclusion of the season for a chance to be named The Swan. The first two seasons of the show aired in 2004. A third season was anticipated, but the show was ultimately cancelled in early 2005 due to declining ratings. The plastic surgeons on the team were selected for their ability to perform dramatic transformations. Drs. Terry Dubrow and Randal Haworth, both board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, were chosen by the producers to perform the multiple plastic surgeries featured in the two aired seasons.
