The Unfettered Shogun
Set in the 18th century, the series follows Shogun Yoshimune, who frequently disguises himself as a low-ranking samurai to visit his capital, Edo, in order to observe the lives of common people and identify and punish those who threaten his citizens. He is assisted by Magistrate Oo'oka and a lively fireman named Tatsugoro, along with a recurring ensemble of other characters. Alongside *Zenigata Heiji* and *Mito Kōmon*, it is one of the longest-running series in the *jidaigeki* genre. Like many other *jidaigeki*, it belongs to the *kanzen-chōaku* category, which broadly means "rewarding good and punishing evil."
