Young lion-hearted leader Lion‑O must rally the stranded ThunderCats and master the mystical Sword of Omens to defend a new world from the ancient evil Mumm‑Ra and relentless mutant foes.
The inhabitants of the planet Thundera evacuated just before it was destroyed, pursued by a band of mutants. All but one of their escape ships were destroyed, leaving only a small group of Thunderans, known as the Thundercats, to survive. With only half engine power, the group, led by Jaga, set a course for the nearest planet. Jaga commanded the ship while the other seven Thundercats were in stasis tubes. Jaga died during the journey to Third Earth, and the ship crashed there. Upon arrival, the Thundercats made friends with various groups in the area and constructed a fortress. Mumm-Ra, the centuries-old embodiment of evil, along with the mutants responsible for the destruction of the rest of the Thunderans, remain a constant threat. However, Lion-O, the new leader of the Thundercats, wields the "Sword of Omens" and provides the Thundercats with a fighting chance.
