Tre kronor

Tre kronor was a Swedish soap opera that aired on TV4 from 1994 to 1999. The series was set in the fictional middle-class suburb of Mälarviken, near Stockholm. Exteriors were filmed in Sätra, a suburb of Stockholm, while interiors were shot in a studio in Kvarnholmen and in Kungens Kurva. Tre kronor aired concurrently with Rederiet on SVT, and the two shows were considered rivals, each attracting around 1 to 2 million viewers. TV4 launched Tre kronor in 1994 to compete with Rederiet's audience. The show's signature tune was composed by Lasse Holm. A spin-off movie, Reine och Mimmi i fjällen!, was based on the characters Reine and Mimmi. The series concluded dramatically when a suicide bombing at the local restaurant Tre Kronor left all but six characters fatally wounded. The perpetrator was revealed to be a priest. Among the show's major cliffhangers was the episode in which Hans Wästberg, portrayed by Ulf Brunnberg, robbed a post office and accidentally shot his son Hans-Åke. Hans Wästberg was later imprisoned and did not return to the series after the second season. Season Three ended with the death of Sirpa "Bimbo" Koskinen, the girlfriend of Hans-Åke Wästberg, in a bus crash. Salongo, played by Richard Sseruwagi, was a Ugandan refugee and wealthy businessman who fell in love with the married police officer Lena Sjökvist, portrayed by Catharine Hansson. He later purchased the restaurant Tre Kronor and, after buying another restaurant, Salongo also disappeared from the series.
