In the 2030s, the Boy Detectives Club operates under the enigmatic leadership of Kogorō Akechi, a skilled detective who guides the group as they tackle a variety of cases using their individual talents. One case leads to a fateful encounter when club member Kensuke Hanazaki meets Yoshio Kobayashi, a boy whose body is immune to death due to the effects of the "Unidentifiable Mist." Despite his unnatural condition, Kobayashi longs for death and avoids human contact. Intrigued by Kobayashi, Hanazaki extends an invitation for him to join the Boy Detectives Club. This meeting becomes a pivotal point in a larger narrative that connects Kogorō Akechi with the era's most notorious criminal, the Fiend With Twenty Faces.
