Miyuki Amaya is a member of the sailing team aboard the manned submersible research ship Shinkai 6500, operated by JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology). She aspires to become a pilot of the 6500. Her father was a pilot and researcher who died from a disease. Miyuki's motivation for deep-sea research stems from her childhood, when her father shared his experiences of the ocean depths with her. Currently, she is a cadet in pilot training. One day, Miyuki is given the opportunity to board the 6500, but she discovers a tape in her father’s locker. The tape contains disturbing images of an unknown giant creature and pilots stranded in the deep sea. It captures her father’s final moments, which are starkly different from the peaceful vision of the deep sea Miyuki had imagined. The footage leaves her deeply disturbed. Whether she can return safely from the deep sea remains uncertain.
