Synopsis
Philippe returns to Versailles as a celebrated war hero, eager to assert himself against his brother as a peace treaty with Spain is signed. As Louis prepares a grand celebration, concerns about ongoing highway attacks lead Fabien to suspect Cassel, who refuses to attend. Athenais de Montespan, with Sophie de Clermont in tow, is sent to pressure Cassel into compliance, using Sophie as an unwitting lure. The festivities trigger painful memories for Philippe, Sophie makes a reckless choice that disappoints her mother, and Cassel is left defeated as he returns to his ruined estate.
