*Within These Walls* is a British television drama produced by London Weekend Television for ITV, which aired from 1974 to 1978. The series is set in HMP Stone Park, a fictional women's prison, and focuses on the lives of the prison staff rather than the inmates, distinguishing it from later women-in-prison series such as *Prisoner* and *Bad Girls*. The central character is Faye Boswell, the well-groomed and genteel governor, whose storylines often revolve around her efforts to reform the prison system while balancing her personal life. Another key character is her Chief Officer, Mrs. Armitage. Googie Withers left the series after three series; in Series Four, her character was succeeded as governor by Helen Forrester, who in turn was replaced in the final Series Five by Susan Marshall. The programme was created and written by David Butler, who also appeared in some episodes as the prison chaplain, the Rev Henry Prentice. As of November 2011, Network DVD had released all five series in the UK, with the exception of the episode "Nowhere for the Kids" from Series Two, which appears to have been lost from the archives.
