XIII
In the opening of the story, the first female U.S. President, Sally Sheridan, is assassinated by a sniper during her Veterans Day speech. Her killer manages to flee the scene with his life, seemingly evading the grasp of national security forces. Three months later, an elderly couple discovers the body of a severely wounded man hanging in a tree, clad in a parachute. The young man has no memory of who he is or what events led to his condition.
