Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes

Set in 1930, in a small Tartar village, the story follows Zuleikha, who witnesses the murder of her husband by communists. She is subsequently exiled and endures a grueling train journey to a remote location along the Angara River in Siberia. Life in the labor camp is harsh, and many in her group fail to survive the first brutal winter. As Zuleikha begins to adapt to her new reality, she grows familiar with her fellow exiles. Among them are a somewhat eccentric doctor, an artist who secretly paints, and Ignatov, the man responsible for her husband's death. The film is based on the best-selling novel by Guzel Yakhina.
