A celebrated filmmaker, paralyzed by creative block, retreats into memory and fantasy as the people in his life demand the movie he can no longer imagine.
Synopsis
Guido Anselmi, a film director, experiences a creative block at the height of his career. Advised by his doctors to take a break, he travels to a luxurious resort, where he is joined by an uneasy group of people—his producer, staff, actors, wife, mistress, and relatives—each urging him to continue working. As he retreats from their demands, he becomes lost in fantasies of past relationships and memories of his childhood.
