Biography

Federico Fellini, Knight Grand Cross (January 20, 1920 – October 31, 1993), was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Recognized for a distinctive style that merges fantasy with baroque imagery, he is regarded as one of the most influential and highly respected filmmakers of the 20th century.

Fellini's films present personal and highly individualistic visions of society, combining elements of memory, dreams, fantasy, surrealism, and desire. The terms "Fellinian" and "Felliniesque" have become synonymous with any extravagant, fanciful, or baroque imagery in cinema and art in general.

Over a career lasting nearly fifty years, Fellini won the Palme d'Or for *La Dolce Vita*, received twelve Academy Award nominations, and directed four films that won Oscars in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. In 1993, he was presented with an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement at the 65th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
