Angels in America
Synopsis
Set in New York in 1985, against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis, which many in puritanical America viewed as divine punishment for gay men, *Angels in America* follows the intersecting lives of several characters who embody the emptiness of the American dream. Among them is the ghost of Ethel Rosenberg, a former spy, who disrupts relationships and haunts the lives of dying patients. Prior, a man infected with AIDS, is in love with Louis, who is about to leave him. Roy Cohn, a powerful Jewish and homosexual lawyer who is also an anti-Semite and homophobe, denies his HIV diagnosis. Harper, trapped in a troubled marriage to Joe, turns to drugs to cope, as Joe's uncertain sexuality conflicts with his rigid religious convictions. After the cancellation of "Angels in America" performances due to the 2020 health crisis, the project was adapted into a TV movie titled "Angels - Salle Escande," filmed in the intimacy of rehearsals.
