“One woman's hope brought light to an entire town”
Synopsis
DeeDee returns to her hometown with her 11-year-old son, Trooper, 13 years after she left with her boyfriend. Her childhood best friend, Sam, is now married to Lydia, and the two run the town's veterinary practice. Lydia is initially cautious about DeeDee after Sam reveals that they were close growing up and that DeeDee was his first crush. Nonetheless, DeeDee and Trooper gradually win over many townspeople with their kindness and helpful nature. DeeDee starts a candle-making business in the town square and invites local women to weekly candle-making gatherings, through which she and Lydia grow closer. After a dinner with Lydia and Sam, DeeDee reveals to Sam that she is seriously ill and has little time left, asking for his help in finding a good family for Trooper. Sam later shares this with Lydia, and they decide to adopt Trooper themselves if DeeDee's condition worsens.
