Fear Himself: The Life and Crimes of Freddy Krueger
Synopsis
The *Nightmare on Elm Street* film series is a horror franchise that began in 1984 with the release of *A Nightmare on Elm Street*, directed by Wes Craven. The first film introduced the character Freddy Krueger, a disfigured, glove-wearing serial killer who preys on teenagers in their dreams and physically manifests in the real world to kill them. The film was a critical and commercial success, launching a series of sequels that expanded the mythology and explored different aspects of Freddy’s world. The franchise includes *The Dream Master* (1985), *The Elm That Screamed* (1987), *The Curse of Freddy Krueger* (1988), *The New Nightmare* (1994), *Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare* (1991), and *Freddy vs. Jason* (2003), which brought together Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees from the *Friday the 13th* series. The series has been noted for its unique blend of horror and surrealism, and for its influence on the slasher genre. Robert Englund’s portrayal of Freddy Krueger became iconic, and he reprised the role in most of the sequels. The franchise has also been revived in various forms, including television series and animated adaptations.

How many hands made this film
The scale of the collaboration
Principal cast & crew: 12
These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.
Why a floor?
This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
