For a Lost Soldier

In the occupied Netherlands near the end of World War II, teenager Jeroen Boman (played by Maarten Smit) is sent from Amsterdam to the Dutch countryside to avoid the war. While staying with his adoptive family, Jeroen meets Canadian soldier Walt Cook, who is stationed in the same town. The two spend considerable time together and develop a romantic relationship. Jeroen’s sexual curiosity leads to a sexual encounter with Walt; the scene is presented with vague detail and no nudity, though intimacy between them is implied. The film addresses this subject with an understated style that prevents the adult‑child dynamic from dominating the narrative, allowing it to be viewed as a wartime relationship marking an important moment in the young boy’s life.
