Hitchcock and Dial M
Synopsis
Alfred Hitchcock's *Dial M for Murder* is a 1954 thriller based on Frederick Knott's stage play *The Murderers*, which Hitchcock had previously adapted into the 1945 film *The Lady Vanishes*. The story follows Tony Wendice, a former tennis player who plots to murder his wife, Margot, after discovering she is having an affair. With the help of a hired killer named Simon, Tony stages the murder to look like a burglary gone wrong. The film is notable for its tight narrative, suspenseful pacing, and Hitchcock's signature use of camera techniques to build tension. It also features a twist ending that recontextualizes the entire story. The film was shot in CinemaScope and is considered one of Hitchcock's most effective and tightly constructed thrillers.
