A principled lawyer battles a charismatic firebrand preacher in court to protect a teacher’s right to teach evolution, risking his reputation and the town’s fragile peace.

Synopsis
Schoolteacher Bertram Cates is arrested for teaching his students Darwin's theory of evolution. The case attracts national attention, and one of the newspaper reporters, E.K. Hornbeck, arranges to bring in the renowned defense attorney and atheist Henry Drummond to represent Cates. The prosecutor, Matthew Brady, is a former presidential candidate, a famous evangelist, and an old adversary of Drummond.
