Synopsis

ABC's emergence as a major force in television sports coverage is marked by its aggressive investment in NFL broadcasting. Executive Roone Arledge assembled a high-profile commentary team featuring former Dallas Cowboys quarterback "Dandy" Don Meredith, Keith Jackson, and the outspoken Howard Cosell, creating a distinctive and entertaining trio that attracted millions of viewers. After the first season, Jackson leaves the broadcast to lead the network's college football coverage, and former New York Giants star Frank Gifford joins the team in his place, prompting tension with Cosell. The dynamic then takes an unpredictable turn.

The scale of the collaboration

A crew of 92+ credited

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
