Synopsis

The series follows three generations of an immigrant family, depicting their trials, tribulations, tragedies and triumphs. In the 1930s, first‑generation immigrants Maria and Jose arrive in Los Angeles, meet, marry and face deportation before establishing a household in East Los Angeles. Their children—Chucho, Paco, Memo, Irene, Toni and Jimmy—navigate youth culture and interactions with the Los Angeles police during the 1950s. In the 1960s, as the second generation reaches adulthood, the narrative centers on Jimmy, his marriage to Isabel, a Salvadorian refugee, their son, and Jimmy’s development into a responsible parent.
