Synopsis

Elizabeth Wurtzel, a gifted young writer, receives a scholarship to Harvard University, viewing it as an opportunity to escape the constraints of her working-class upbringing and focus on her writing. However, what initially appears promising soon gives way to self-destructive behavior and severe depression, mirroring the broader struggles of her generation in dealing with the impacts of divorce, drug use, sexual exploration, and high societal expectations.
