Sara enrolls at Juilliard in New York to pursue her and her mother's dream of becoming the Prima ballerina of the school. She forms a friendship with her roommates, Zoe and Miles, who teach hip-hop classes. Sara takes ballet under the instruction of the strict and renowned Monique Delacroix, whom she admires; Monique demands full commitment, discipline, and hard work from her students. When Miles, who is a composer, invites Sara to assist him in composing music for dance choreography, her interest in hip-hop is ignited, and she also develops feelings for him. When she is assigned to perform Giselle in a significant event, she feels torn between the technical demands of ballet and the creative opportunities presented by working with Miles.
