School of Rock
A down‑on‑his‑luck rocker impersonates a substitute teacher at a strict prep school to pay overdue rent, but must channel his wild stage energy into inspiring misfit students before his true identity—and his band’s future—crash spectacularly.
“He just landed the gig of his life: 5th grade.”
Synopsis
Desperate for money after being fired from his band, guitarist and vocalist Dewey Finn takes a job as a fifth-grade substitute teacher at a private school. While maintaining his position, he secretly introduces his high-achieving students to the fundamentals of rock 'n' roll and the philosophy of challenging authority. As the school's strict principal becomes suspicious and the Battle of the Bands approaches, Dewey puts everything on the line to demonstrate the transformative power of rock 'n' roll.

How many hands made this film
The scale of the collaboration
Principal cast & crew: 26
These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.
Why a floor?
This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.

✅ Made its money back — grossed 3.7× its budget
Why 2.5×?
Cinemas keep roughly half of every ticket sold, and a wide release’s marketing often costs about as much again as the film — so a movie needs to gross around 2.5× its production budget just to break even theatrically. It’s a rule of thumb, not the studio’s ledger (home video and streaming come later).

Every stage matters — pitch decks and treatments from development, location scouts and table-reads from pre-production, set photos and crew anecdotes from production, edit-bay notes from post, and press kits, festival memories, or marketing ephemera from distribution. Any moment that didn't make the press tour, any document or photograph that's been sitting in a box — please share it so it's not lost to time.
We particularly welcome contributions from writers, producers, cast, crew, festival programmers, distributors, marketing teams, their families, and anyone who was there at any stage.
