Synopsis
Set in the American South in the aftermath of the Civil War, Laurel Sommersby is struggling to manage the family farm in the absence of her husband, Jack Sommersby, who was presumed killed in battle. By most accounts, Jack was not a kind or agreeable man, so when he unexpectedly returns, Laurel experiences a mix of emotions. It seems Jack has undergone a significant transformation, leading some in the community to suspect that he may not be the real Jack but an imposter. Though uncertain herself, Laurel decides to allow the man to stay in her home, leaving open the possibility of eventually accepting him into her heart.
