St. Peter

The film portrays Saint Peter as a reluctant yet passionate leader, tracing his journey from the crucifixion of Jesus to his own. The first half of the film dramatizes events from the New Testament's "Acts," including the early disciples' fear, the renewal of Pentecost, Saul's conversion, the decision to baptize pagans, and the Apostles' dispersal. The second half follows an aged Peter traveling to Rome to join Paul, arriving on the day of Paul's arrest. Paul's death leads to a crisis among Rome's Christians and for Peter himself; drawing on lessons from Jesus's teachings, Peter decides to remain. The story also follows the fictive household of Persius, a Roman aristocrat, whose experiences reflect the upheaval caused by Christian teachings in the Eternal City.
