The Deadly Affair

Charles Dobbs, a British secret agent, investigates the apparent suicide of Foreign Office official Samuel Fennan. He suspects that Fennan’s wife Elsa—who survived a Nazi extermination camp—may possess relevant information, while other officials pressure him to abandon the case. To pursue quiet inquiries, Dobbs hires retiring inspector Mendel. Unexplained anomalies further complicate the investigation. At home, Dobbs contends with his unfaithful wife, whom he loves despite her frequent affairs. He also reconnects with an old wartime associate, Dieter Frey, who was recruited after World War II. With assistance from a colleague and the retired policeman, Dobbs works to identify the spy responsible for Fennan’s death.
