The Mayo Clinic, Faith, Hope and Science

The Mayo Clinic is a renowned medical institution often described as a "Medical Mecca," the "Supreme Court of Medicine," and "the place for hope where there is no hope." It was founded in 1883 as an unexpected collaboration between the Sisters of Saint Francis and a rural physician named William Worrall Mayo, following a destructive tornado in Minnesota. Over time, it has expanded into a major healthcare provider, treating more than a million patients annually from all 50 U.S. states and 150 countries. Dr. Mayo instilled in his sons, Will and Charlie, a guiding principle: "the needs of the patient come first." Rather than focusing solely on diseases, they emphasized treating the whole person. In contrast to the often fragmented nature of modern healthcare, the Mayo Clinic has long employed a multi-specialty, team-based approach, fostering a collaborative culture from its inception.
