Synopsis

General Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell found themselves at a crossroads as they grappled with the aftermath of deposing King Charles I. While both were key figures in the parliamentary forces that led to the king's execution, their relationship became increasingly strained as the political landscape shifted. Fairfax, a moderate and traditionalist, grew uneasy with the radical turn the Commonwealth was taking, particularly under the influence of Cromwell and the more militant Independents. In contrast, Cromwell, a fervent Puritan and military leader, pushed for a more decisive break from the past and a restructuring of England's government. Their differing visions for the future of the nation led to growing tension, with Fairfax eventually retiring from active politics, while Cromwell continued to rise in power, eventually becoming Lord Protector of the Commonwealth.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 19

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
