Synopsis

Will Penny, an aging cowboy, takes a job at a ranch where his duties involve patrolling the property line to detect trespassers or squatters. During his rounds, he discovers that his cabin in the high mountains has been taken over by a woman and her son, who are stranded there after her guide to Oregon has abandoned them. Hesitant to force the mother and child out during the harsh winter, he agrees to share the cabin with them until the spring thaw. As the season progresses, the initial tension between the lonely man and the woman gradually gives way to a deep emotional connection.
