Biography

Alan Wheatley was an English actor who worked in stage, film, radio, and television. His career spanned from the 1930s to the 1990s, during which he appeared in over forty films between 1931 and 1965. He was a regular presence in radio and television throughout this period. He is best known for playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in the 1950s television series *The Adventures of Robin Hood*, appearing in 54 episodes from 1955 to 1959. Earlier in his career, Wheatley portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the first television series to feature the character.
