Biography

Catherine Ann Keener (born March 26, 1959) is an American actress. Known for her work in independent film, Keener is recognized for her portrayals of disillusioned yet empathetic women. She has received two Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nominations: one for *Being John Malkovich* (1999) and another for her role as author Harper Lee in *Capote* (2005).

Keener also appeared in *The 40-Year-Old Virgin* (2005), *Into the Wild* (2007), *Synecdoche, New York* (2008), and *Get Out* (2017), all of which received positive critical reception. She has been a frequent collaborator with director Nicole Holofcener, appearing in each of her first five films. She also appeared in the first four films of director Tom DiCillo and in three films directed by Spike Jonze. From 2018 to 2020, she starred in the Showtime dramedy *Kidding*.
