Biography

Charlie Russell was an American painter, sculptor, and artist known for his depictions of cowboys, Native Americans, and Western landscapes. He produced over 2,000 paintings and numerous bronze sculptures, earning him the title "the cowboy artist." Russell was also a storyteller and author, using his work to celebrate and preserve the culture of the American West. He was an advocate for Native American rights, particularly supporting the Chippewa tribe's efforts to establish a reservation in Montana. His advocacy contributed to the creation of the Rocky Boy Reservation, which was established by Congress in 1916.
