Biography

Dame Daphne du Maurier, Lady Browning, DBE (13 May 1907 – 19 April 1989) was an English author and playwright. Though often categorized as a romantic novelist, her work is frequently characterized as "moody and resonant," often incorporating elements of the paranormal. While her best-selling novels were initially dismissed by critics, they have since gained a lasting reputation for their narrative skill. Several of her works have been successfully adapted into films, including the novels *Rebecca*, *My Cousin Rachel*, and *Jamaica Inn*, as well as the short stories *The Birds* and *Don't Look Now/Not After Midnight*.
