Biography

Dennis Weaver was an American actor known for his work in television and film from the 1950s until his death in 2006. He became well known for his role as Chester Goode, deputy to Marshal Matt Dillon, on the western series *Gunsmoke*, and as Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud on the police drama *McCloud*. Weaver also appeared in notable films, including *Touch of Evil* (1958), in which he played a twitchy motel attendant, and *Duel* (1971), the first film directed by Steven Spielberg. In addition to his acting career, Weaver served as president of the Screen Actors Guild.
