Biography

George T. López was a renowned Santos woodcarver known for his craftsmanship and cultural contributions. Born in Cordova, New Mexico, a small village located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, López became prominent for his traditional artistry. In 1982, he received the National Heritage Fellowship, an award presented by the National Endowment for the Arts. Through his carvings, López preserved and honored the heritage of Santos, a significant folk art form in New Mexico.
