Biography

James Douglas Muir Leno is an American television host, comedian, and writer best known for his long tenure as the host of NBC's *The Tonight Show*. After years in stand-up comedy, Leno was selected in 1992 to succeed Johnny Carson. He hosted the show until September 2009, when Conan O'Brien became the new host. Leno then launched *The Jay Leno Show*, a primetime talk show airing weeknights at 10:00 p.m. ET. A scheduling dispute in 2010 led to Leno returning to *The Tonight Show* in March 2010, where he remained until February 2014. From 2014 to 2022, Leno hosted *Jay Leno's Garage*, and from 2021 to 2023, he hosted the revival of *You Bet Your Life*. In 2014, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
