Jonathan Dayton

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris have developed a diverse body of work by pursuing innovative projects across multiple mediums. They first gained recognition for introducing bands such as R.E.M. and Red Hot Chili Peppers on their groundbreaking MTV show *The Cutting Edge* (1992). Following this, they directed music videos and documentaries for artists including The Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, Macy Gray, Janet Jackson, Oasis, Weezer, and The Ramones. Their music-related work has earned them two Grammy Awards, nine MTV Music Video Awards, and a Billboard Music "Director of the Year" Award. In 1998, they co-founded "Bob Industries," a prominent commercial production company. They have directed commercials for brands such as VW, Sony Playstation, Gap, Target, Ikea, Apple, and ESPN. In 2002, Creativity Magazine named them one of its top ten commercial directors. In addition to their music and commercial work, Dayton and Faris have contributed to television and film, including directing episodes of *Mr. Show with Bob and David* (1995) for HBO and producing two feature films: *The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years* (1988) for New Line Cinema and *Gift* (1993) for Warner Bros. Music.
