Biography

Louis Mountbatten was a British statesman and naval officer who played a significant role in both world wars and was a prominent member of the British royal family. He served as Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asia Command during the latter part of World War II. After the war, Mountbatten became the last Viceroy of India and the first Governor-General of independent India, overseeing the country's transition to independence and its partition into India and Pakistan. In his role as Viceroy, he also facilitated the integration of the princely states into the newly formed Indian Union.
